The coast path from the front door leads you down to the former ruined village of Hallsands washed away one stormy night in January 1917. The viewing platform gives a wonderful perspective of the former village and its incredible location. Hallsands is a delightful shingle cove just a 5 minute walk from Start Bay Lookout. The coast path continues over National Trust land to the fishing village of Beesands with its famous food pub The Cricket Inn, where a warm welcome and delicious locally produced food await. The South Hams coast continues onto the incredible Slapton Sands with its beautiful freshwater ley. Blackpool Sands is Devons premier sandy cove and is just 20 minutes by car - it is the perfect sandy beach in the most beautiful of locations with a superb organic beach café and shop.

The incredibly beautiful coast road continues to the delightful historic naval town of Dartmouth with its superb shops, pretty town gardens, harbour and castle. River trips are available up the Dart to historic Totnes a delightful small town in the heart of the South Hams offering a unique independent shopping experience- whether its organic groceries, kitchen ware,handmade shoes or art! The coast path continues westerly to Start Point Lighthouse where in season, tours are available to the top of the tower with unsurpassed views in all directions.

The hidden sandy coves at both Great Mattiscombe and Lannacombe are secluded and offer fantastic bathing oppurtunities! The tiny harbour ferry takes visitors from East Portlemouth over to Salcombe with its beautiful beaches at North and South Sands, delightful shops and cafes and the stunning tropical gardens at Overbecks. The whole of the South Hams is criss crossed with flower filled lanes and footpaths and offers numerous opportunities for walkers whether it is coast, creek, river or country.
